A Passion for Fashion (and History) at Strawberry Banke

Strawberry Banke a living history museum located in Porstmouth, NH has just unveiled a new exhibit called Thread: The Story of Fashion at Strawberry Banke. The exhibit reflects on the people who lived in the Porstmouth, NH Puddle Dock neighborhood over the course of 300 years. The exhibit will be shown throughout the museum and feature some items that have yet to be seen by the public. The museum’s historic fashions will be paired with some contemporary designs created by well known fashion designers.  Designers who have contributed to the exhibit are Emma Hope of London, Philip Treacy, also of London, Katerina Lankova (New York and Aspen), Chesley McLaren and  Lily Zane to name a few.

Here are details on the exhibit:

Rarely seen items from the museum’s costume collection are displayed alongside the creations of 15 contemporary designers in six of the museum’s historic houses, from the 1740 embroidered London Lady’s Shoe to the fanciful 2012 Emma Hope shoe it inspired. Through October 31, 2012. 7 days a week, 10-5. Note: Some of the contemporary designs will be temporarily removed from display June 25 – July 2 for exhibition in the Celebrity Designers Runway Show. – Strawberry Banke
