TMS project architect, Jason Bailey, is once again indulging in one of his favorite “off duty” pursuits – uphill bicycle racing! He kicked off (or pedaled off) this racing season by participating June 16th in the 11th Annual Uphill Bike Race , held in Wilmington, New York, home to Whiteface Mountain.
Whiteface Mountain has a summit elevation of 4,867 and the bike course climbed 3,500 feet up Whiteface Mountain Veterans Memorial Highway to the top of NY’s 5th highest peak where, if you have completed the climb, you are treated to a 360 degree panoramic view of the Adirondacks, new England and Canada.
Jason finished 46th out of 273 finishers with a time of 1:04:23 and was tenth in his age group. He reported that the course was 11.5 miles long with most of it straight UPHILL!! Stayed tuned for a report on his next climb – the Mount Washington Bike Race coming in August!.
