Three Reasons to go on a House Tour

Spring in New England means it is house tour season. House tours and designer showhouses offer a wealth of ideas and inspiration for building, renovating or decorating your own home. Here are some good reasons why a house tour or showhouse should be on your spring calendar:

1. You get to see what people are doing in your own community.

It is certainly good fun to peruse the pages of Architectural Digest, but viewing homes that are actually within your community or region will provide you with more practical and executable ideas. Architectural styles, geography and regional tastes will all influence design so take advantage of local opportunities for inspiration.

2. Learn about what might work and what doesn’t.

Every home provides the opportunity to see first hand what different architectural elements look like. Thinking of adding a large center island to your kitchen but wondering if the dimensions you are looking at might be too large? Seeing a kitchen island in real life will help you confirm that you are (or aren’t) going in the right direction. Or, you may decide to add a sunroom off your living room when you see how great it looked in a home you saw on the tour.

3. Educate yourself on local resources.

A house tour allows you to see first hand the work of local architects, designers and builders. What better way to review the local talent?

TMS Architects is pleased to be a sponsor of the 2012 Music Hall Kitchen Tour. The tour is scheduled for May 5th and will take place in New Castle, NH. Please visit the Music Hall website to learn more.
