This relaxed yet refined lake home was designed with an emphasis on comfort, warmth, and subtle sophistication; tailored to a young family from the mid-Atlantic seeking a nature-immersed getaway with space for hosting and connecting with family. Though the existing 1960s structure was replaced, the interiors reflect a desire to maintain the home’s sense of simplicity and connection to it’s surroundings.
The interior palette draws inspiration from the forest that encompasses the property, with muted, natural tones and abundant use of white oak across the flooring, millwork, and interior windows. Clean-lined timber elements and stone textures reflect a mountain-modern aesthetic softened by cozy finishes and tactile materials.
At the heart of the home (the kitchen) lies a custom soapstone Tulikivi stove, which not only bakes breads and pizza, but heats the space along with the soapstone bench that sits beside it. The jagged profile of the soapstone cladding is a sweet and discreet personal touch, reflecting the shoreline’s natural contour between this property and the client’s family home next door.
The kitchen also features refined nods to Eastlake-style detailing, most notably around the island and custom built-in hutch, blending traditional craftsmanship with modern restraint.
Throughout the home, broad windows frame views of the lake, woods, and courtyard, bringing in light and an ever-present nod to nature.
Each of the five bedrooms includes an ensuite bath, with a bunkroom for additional guests and playful overnights. The primary suite
includes a private deck and retreat-like atmosphere, while the screen porch can convert into a 3-season room with removable storm windows.
