Under the watchful design guidance of TMS principal architect, Robert Carty, AIA, and Chris Ragusa of CM Ragusa Builders, a wonderful renovation is under construction near the ocean on New Hampshire’s coastline. The homeowners live in the Midwest, using this home as their beach vacation house and wanted to expand the family living area to make it more open for entertaining and large family gatherings.
In the foreground of the renovated family room is a curved ceiling that will be finished with arched mahogany beams.
The expanded kitchen/family room living area now forms the nucleus of the house. The kitchen was actually moved from the driveway side of the home to the newly expanded central living area with a view to the water and the former kitchen became a guest bedroom.
The exterior of the home is undergoing significant changes as well. Prior to the renovation, there wasn’t a well-defined entrance but now there is a stone turret housing the front door and the top of turret is the master bedroom with space for the homeowner’s art studio overlooking the ocean. Local artist Walter Liff created the custom clipper ship weather vane and the owners have commissioned a stained glass window with a ship’s image to fill an oval window adjacent to the front entrance.
