Several years ago we worked on the historic renovation of The Music Hall theater in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. The renovations breathed new life into the architectural gem, which remains a fixture of the local arts scene and community. If you haven’t visited since the renovation, the holiday season is a great time to have a look while enjoying a play, concert, or other event at the theater this December.
Highlighting the lineup is the Broadway musical “Mary Poppins” December 10-14, 2014. It will be performed by The Music Hall’s own Ogunquit Playhouse and will feature singing, dancing and even swirling snow inside the theater to put you in the holiday spirit.
On Dec. 2 and Dec. 3 enjoy the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra’s Family Holiday Pops concert, including holiday favorites, sing-a-longs and a special performance by the York Chamber Singers.
Theaterworks USA brings the new “Curious George” musical to The Music Hall on Dec. 4 for a performance kids will love.
There is more family fun to be had at “The Ragpicker’s Dream” on Dec. 6 and Dec. 7. Performed by Kent Stephens’ Stage Force, this annual holiday play reading includes memorable moments from heart-warming tales by authors such as Robert Frost and David Sedaris.
The Music Hall will be the perfect setting for “An 1836 Portsmouth Nutcracker” Dec. 20 and Dec. 21. Presented by Great Bay Academy of Dance, come see the enchanting story unfold in a beautiful historic setting.
Love to sing? Be part of the performance by participating in “Messiah Sing!” at the theater Dec. 22. Join local choruses and conductors in singing your favorite holiday tunes.
Throughout the month of December, you can come to The Music Hall for extraordinary cinema as well. Showings include “Force Majeur” Dec. 3-4 and Dec. 10-11; “The Skeleton Twins” Dec. 13 and Dec. 16-18; “La Chambre Bleue (The Blue Room)” Dec. 19, Dec. 21 and Dec. 23; “White Bird in a Blizzard” Dec. 27-28 and Dec. 30; and “Tracks” Dec. 30.
